Installation of the RC4WD EcoDrive 1/14 CVT Automatic Transmission for Tamiya 1/14 Semi Trucks!!

In case you missed it, we released our first ever EcoDrive 1/14 CVT Automatic Transmission for Tamiya 1/14 Semi Trucks (VVV-S0160) from JD Models!!

This item boasts a continuously variable transmission (CVT) which is an automatic transmission that can change seamlessly through an indefinite number of effective gear ratios between maximum and minimum values. The flexibility of a CVT allows the input shaft to maintain a constant angular velocity!!

We teamed up with SemiJoe to provide the beginner builders with some step by step details on setting up the EcoDrive 1/14 CVT Automatic Transmission for Tamiya 1/14 Semi Trucks (VVV-S0160) with his Scania Rolling chassis. Keep reading to see how to do this yourself!!

When using the EcoDrive 1/14 CVT Automatic Transmission for Tamiya 1/14 Semi Trucks (VVV-S0160), you may first notice its weight. Made of zinc alloy, this EcoDrive 1/14 CVT Automatic Transmission for Tamiya 1/14 Semi Trucks (VVV-S0160) comes in at 26.17oz and is twice as heavy as most stock transmissions to provide extra durability. When setting up, you can choose to use either the stock motor or a 35T. SemiJoe paired our it with our RC4WD 540 Crawler Brushed Motor 35T (Z-E0005) and starts by removing the body mount and center crossmember. Next, you'll want to remove the transmission and driveshaft.

Mating of the motor and trans comes right before the installation of the trans. The EcoDrive 1/14 CVT Automatic Transmission for Tamiya 1/14 Semi Trucks (VVV-S0160) will use the stock hole, however the installation of the body mount may require some customization. You may have to shave a little off the inside mount where the screw goes through. No worries though as this step is super easy to do! This will allow the new trans to slide over easily for a great fit!

Next, you'll notice that the stock driveshaft will not work. A quick resolution to this would be to use an aftermarket driveshaft. Here, SemiJoe used our RC4WD Scale Nylon Long Punisher Shaft (104mm-150mm) 5mm Hole (Z-S0582) driveshaft (Choosing a replacement driveshaft will depend on the truck you plan to install this on).

And that's it. You're all done!! This process should take an average of 30 minutes and would look amazing on any Tamiya truck!!

For some ultra customization, we moved the entire engine forward and added a built-in radiator! We made an intake manifold, heads, air breather and added some injectors with some wiring.

The head and twin turbos used are from Shapeways. We also made a pop in flooring for the cab.
